Everything is about ultrabooks lately, a trend that aims to replace the traditional laptops. Are you considering purchasing a machine like this? Important manufacturers such as Toshiba, Acer, Asus, Dell or HP have been already introduced their first ultra slim, light and catchy ultrabooks, so you have options. Here we have the first machines called ultrabooks from these two PC makers: Dell and HP .

Both are solid machines that use an aluminium alloy chassis for a stylis, yet classic design. HP 13 Folio seems to be a reminisce of previous laptops, though the company says it’s for everyone. It’s heavier that the Dell XPS 13, yet pretty thin giving the amount of ports available. That’s a section where HP does a better job, because Dell XPS 13 comes with a limited number of ports.

As for the battery life, according to the manufacturers, both should provide around 9 hours of usage, though after testing the product, you’ll see that lasts withone hours or two less. It really depends on what you’re doing, what apps run and so on. Still, they provide a better battery life than traditional laptops. There is also a nice backlit keyboard included for both machines plus CoolSense technology, though the HP 13 Folio gets heat and make some noise.

For each of these ultrabooks, the system boots in a few seconds and resume from sleep still in a couple of seconds. Same operating system run on Dell XPS 13 and HP 13 Folio with the same display resolution which is not as good in terms of viewing angles.

As for the price tag, as you can see, the Dell XPS 13, hitting the market this month, will be $100 extra more expensive than HP 13 Folio. It does have a head-turning design, more appealing than the one you find on HP 13 Folio, a durable display protected by Gorilla Glass technology and a good battery life. Still, both’s screen resolution could have been higher.
