Acer Aspire V series laptops feature updated styling and hardware

In a few months you should start to see the first wave of new Acer Aspire V series laptop computers at your local computer shop.
Acer Aspire V
The Aspire family will be gaining V series models that hit the 11.6-, 14-, 15.6-, and 17.3-inch categories. The new laptops will either fall under the Aspire V3 or Aspire V5 families. Between the V3 and V5 families the only difference that is really discernible sits with either systems design. The V3 laptops are designed less extravagantly than the V5 notebooks which resemble Ultrabooks.

Here is what the Aspire V3 laptops will look like:

Acer Aspire V3And here is what you’ll get with the Aspire V5 laptops:

Acer Aspire V5 BlueWithout mentioning any prices I can guess that the more premiumly designed Aspire V5 will be more expensive than the V3 laptops. The Aspire V5 will be sold in 11.6-, 14-, and 15.6-inch form-factors and the V3 will be sold in 14-, 15.6-, and 17.3-inch form-factors.

Acer mentions they wanted to target the emerging thin and light laptop market with the Aspire V5′s, and they say the 11.6-inch model is only 15mm thick and the 14- and 15-inch models are 21 and sub-23mm thick each. As for the V3 laptops Acer claims those are designed to be general purpose laptops, no width measurements have been given.
Acer Aspire V
However features wise the Aspire V3 and V5 laptops don’t really differ that much from the few details that Acer has provided thus far. All the new V series laptops will come with Intel’s latest Core i processors, NVIDIA GeForce GT discrete graphics, USB 3.0, HDMI, VGA, Ethernet LAN, stereo speakers, integrated webcams, chiclet keyboards and the latest Windows 7 software.

Acer Aspire V5 PinkAcer has only revealed pricing plans for Europe at this time and according to the company customers over in Europe should expect prices to start at €499 for the Aspire V3 models and prices will start at €399 for the Aspire V5 models. Acer will launch the Aspire V3 and V5 laptops in the second quarter of this year (a few months from now). You should also know that the Aspire V3 laptops will launch with Black, Gold and Gray color options, and the V5 is going to be sold with Blue and Pink color options.

Gigabyte to introduce U2442 ultrabooks at CeBIT

Last year Gigabyte announced that it will join ultrabooks market and now we see it unveiling the brand new U2442 machines at CeBIT 2012. The two models U2442N and U2442V will have a slim and light design with only 18.5-20.5mm thick and weighing just 1.49Kg, making them a great option for portability. Despite their light form factor, both ultrabooks are equipped with powerful hardware that you can find on larger laptops.
Equipped with Intel’s third generation of processors Ivy Bridge class Core i5 or i7 options to deliver blazing performance and GeForce GT 640M GPU with 2GB of memory for a great gaming experience, both ultrabooks have a high 14-inch screen resolution of 1600×900 pixels, up to 750GB of hard drive or you can opt for a speedy SSD. Connectivity wise, they include USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.0 and Thunderbolt(optional) 2T2R Double Antenna Wi-Fi and more.
Aside from these two machines, Gygabite also announced the P2542G gaming laptop that isn’t very thin but it does pack impressive technical specs inside such as: fast Ivy Bridge Core i7 processor, a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M GPU with 2GB VRAM, a Blu-ray drive, a THX technology for a great audio experience , a 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 display, USB ports and HDMI socket. A good alternative for consumers searching for gaming and multimedia actions.
The company didn’t give any infos regarding ultrabooks’ pricing or launch time, but we’ll keep updating as soon as new details emerge.

The Japanese company Fujitsu presented at CeBIT show its new LifeBook Ultrabook, a machine that is only 16mm thin and weights 1.4 kg. Featuring a classic look, the laptop will be available in two vivid colors: red and silver.
Fujitsu didn’t have a specific name for its first ultrabook, but it will be part of the Lifebook series. Featuring a full magnesium case, it will be equipped with a 14-inch edge-to-edge screen, a built-in webcam, a good number of ports: two USB 3.0, one USB 2.0 port, HDMI socket, headphone jack and a Kensington Security Slot. There will be also Wi-Fi connectivity available plus 4G LTE, probably its most highlighted attribute.
It seems that the machine will include Intel’s newest Ivy Bridge platform, with no mention the capacity of internal memory of its system. With a slim and portable design, Fujitsu has designed a good looking machine that is expected to ship this early summer. No pricing details were given.

Acer M3 and M5 ultrabooks showcased at the CeBIT

Even though Acer’s first ultrabook effort, the Aspire S3, hasn’t exactly been the most successful around the block, the Taiwanese technology manufacturer is planning to impress us during 2012. After unveiling the S5 and the Timeline Ultra M3 and M5 back at the CES, the latter two products are again showcased at the CeBIT tradeshow in Germany.
The Timeline Ultra M3 and M5 are practically identical in terms of features and tech specs, except for the fact that the first of the duo sports a 15-inch screen, while the second comes with a 14-inch display.
According to an official press release issued by Acer moments ago, the M3 will be made available this month for a yet to be specified price. The press release only refers to the M3 for the time being, but it’s safe to assume that the M5 will be released at the same time as its bigger brother.

Now, let’s get down to business and look over the tech specs and features that have been finally made official. Sporting a 15-inch screen, the M3 is a two-spindle laptop that, even though is not as light or thin as most of today’s ultrabooks, should satisfy any user’s thirst for portability.
Measuring 20 mm (0.78 inches) thick, the M3 will be powered by an Intel Sandy Bridge processor and will feature a dedicated Nvidia GeForce GT640M graphics card. As a matter of fact, if the laptop will be made available this month, as the guys at Acer have announced, the M3 will actually be the first ever notebook advertised as an ultrabook to come with dedicated graphics. That should mean a huge step forward in terms of performance, especially when talking about gaming and multimedia playback.

The guys at Acer have apparently learned their lesson with the S3 and will be offering the choice of SSD or hybrid HDD storage options on the M3. The M3’s battery should hold for up to eight hours, if we are to believe the manufacturers’ claims, while other features include an optical DVD drive, a Dolby Home Theater system pre-installed on the machine, as well as the Green Instant-On and the Instant Connect technologies.
As you might notice, there are still a couple of details about the M3 kept under wraps, but considering the fact that it will be released in a matter of days or weeks, these should be made available later today. We should also know more about the M5, so keep in touch with our website in the following hours or so!
